The Woodshed is the creative practice of Kunyalala Ndlovu (b.1987) a London based Polymath.
He is at once an artist, producer, consultant and educator.
For the past 18 years he has produced mesmerising narratives for best in class brands, individuals and cultural institutions around the world.
Born in 1987, in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. From the age of 16 (and a half), he lived in London, England. In the mid 2000’s he studied at University of the Arts London. After school he lived and worked in Cape Town, South Africa, before returning to London in 2015, where he has lived ever since.
A Polymath at heart and woodshedder by practice he is a producer, writer, filmmaker, culture critic, visual artist, designer, educator, historian and speaker.
His career began at the age of 14 when he first experienced Rembrandt's colossal Night-watch in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. From that day on he committed himself to the practice of High (Western) Art in all of its forms.
After training at some of the worlds best arts institutions, his career began in producing design, branding and experiential project whilst exhibiting in a number of art shows simultaneously. His visual practice focussed on lesser known narratives around the impact of colonialism into the modern world. After the opening of his debut solo show in 2015, The Heart That Thunders (Cape Town, South Africa) he was commissioned to write his first culture critiques for publications around the world which launched his writing practice.
His first collector was Baroness Harriet Harman, and has contributed works into a number of permanent collections globally such as The Warren M. Robbins Library National Museum of African Art Library at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
His commercial practice has see’s him continually working with the best in class brands, businesses and individuals globally including cultural icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Stella McCartney and Ziwe.
In 2021, he launched Epigraph films, servicing a roster of clients in the realms of high end content production.
In 2023 he began a new creative curriculum with a focus on teaching the arts from perspectives beyond the western gaze, leading special workshops at South Bank University and the Royal College of Art respectively.
